Lots of Exciting News

I have so much good news to share with you!

First of all, I recently finished my work-in-progress, and it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever created. This is how I’ve spent the past two and a half weeks. (See cute baby below.) Bliss. Pure maternal bliss.

Second: Edenbrooke is being translated into Spanish and will be released by the Spanish publisher Libros de Seda this fall. Check out their beautiful cover! (Click on the image to enlarge.)

Third: Just in time for summer reading, Edenbrooke and Blackmoore digital books are at the low price of $4.99 on Amazon. I don’t know how long this sweet deal will last, so if you want an e-book version of either one, now is the time to snatch it up!

Fourth: A talented jewelry designer wants to design jewelry for Edenbrooke and Blackmoore fans! But they’re looking for direction, and I am so sleep-deprived and brain-dead (see cute baby above) that I really need some good ideas. In fact, I need your input so much that I’m going to bribe you. Everyone who gives me an idea for jewelry for Edenbrooke and/or Blackmoore will be entered into a giveaway of a signed copy of either book. So leave your ideas in the comments, please, and in one week I’ll randomly choose a winner.

Now I’m off to do some more cuddling! (See cute baby above)

(No, really. See how cute he is?)

A Sneak Peak

I get a lot of people asking me what I’m working on right now. You have all been very patient as I’ve been kind of out of it the last six months or so. To reward you, I’m giving you a sneak peak of my current work in progress:

I have 10 weeks to go, and it’s a boy!

Votes, Signings, and a Giveaway!

First: How do you all like the new website? I’ve been wanting a more professional website for a while now and I finally got it done! It’s a little bare right now, but we’ll be adding more to it soon, including….(drum roll)….a store. That’s right. A store is built into my website so that when I get my act together and have some awesome Edenbrooke and Blackmoore stuff to sell, you can get it right here. Also, if you’re not already following me on Facebook, click the little “f” button on the homepage. I post there more frequently than I do here. You can also follow my Pinterest boards, (look for the Pinterest symbol under “Social” on the home page) where I have my inspirations for my stories, including the photo above. I also have some mildly embarrassing photos of myself as a kid on my Bio page. Go and have a good laugh for the day. And, you’re welcome.

Second: The Proper Romance tour is happening this weekend in Arizona! Sarah M. Eden and I will be signing books in Phoenix and Tucson. Check the Events page for details. I’m really excited to meet all of you lovely readers in Arizona and I hear it’s in the 70’s down there right now, which sounds like heaaaaaven. If you’re not in the land of the winter sun (is that what you call AZ? Doubt it. But that is what I’m calling it now) check out the Events page for more dates and locations.

Third: Thanks to the combined awesomeness of all of you, Blackmoore made it to the semi-final round of the Goodreads Choice Awards! This is such a big deal, because they were all write-in votes, and I really appreciate your efforts to vote for my story. So let’s see if we can get it into the final round! Go here to vote.

Fourth: If you vote for Blackmoore, come back here and leave a comment and you’ll be entered into a giveaway! Voting ends on November 16th, and after that I’ll randomly pick a winner and send you a signed audio (CD) version of Blackmoore. (By the way, I was talking to someone about how I still call audio books “books on tape”, even though they’re not on TAPE anymore. Does anyone else do this? Or am I just making myself sound really old?) So go vote, and leave a comment, and if you share your vote on Facebook or Twitter, say so in the comment and it will get you extra chances of winning!

FAQs about Blackmoore

Do you ever get to the end of a book and wish you had more? More story, more answers, more interactions? Do you ever wish a story could go on and on? I do sometimes. It’s so fun to get pulled into another world and so hard to say goodbye to that other world. And yet all stories have to end at some point, and some stories have to end with more openness than others.

In Edenbrooke, my first book, I wanted to wrap things up really neatly and give a lot of closure to most of my characters. But those of you who have read both books know that Blackmoore is a different sort of story. Without giving away any spoilers, I want to address the ending of Blackmoore, to hopefully help satisfy everyone who has emailed me with questions about the ending.
Blackmoore is Kate’s story, and Kate’s story only. It’s not her sister’s story, or her mother’s, or even Henry’s story. It is hers, and it’s a story about not just love and the sacrifices love sometimes requires; it is, more importantly, a story about courage, about prying open the cage she found herself in and being brave enough to set herself free. Nobody else could do it for her. She had to be powerful enough to escape it on her own. The fact that she also has a happy ending is icing on the cake. But all of the details at the end that some of you are wondering about are intentionally left to YOUR imagination. YOU get to be the author of the ending of this story, in the same way that Kate–powerful, imaginative, brave Kate–chose to be the author of her story.¬†
So if you’ve emailed me asking me to answer all of your questions about the ending, here’s the truth: I don’t have the answers for you. This is my gift to you: to invent your own answers, and to be happy with the ending you create. The one truth I can tell you, without hesitation, is that Kate is happy. The details are up to you to fill in.¬†

Blackmoore Extras

I have had such an amazing week meeting some of you at book signings and receiving your responses to Blackmoore. It was such a labor of love and heartache for me to write it, and I am so grateful for everyone who has read and understood and seen beauty in Kate’s story. Thank you!

If you want even more of Blackmoore, including my inspirations for Kate and Henry, you can check out my Pinterest board.

I also made a playlist of songs that I listened to while writing. Some of them inspired very specific situations or character interactions; others were more general. For example, Adele’s “Turning Tables” was the song I listened to when I needed to get my head into the relationship between Kate and her mother. Here they are, in no particular order:

Turning Tables by Adele
Distance by Christina Perri, Jason Mraz
Brave by Sara Bareilles
One and Only by Adele
I Will Wait by Mumford and Sons
Arms by Christina Perri
You Belong to Me by Carla Bruni
Carry On by Fun
Bluebird by Christina Perri
Breathe by Taylor Swift
Winter Song by The Head and The Heart
Maybe by Ingrid Michaelson

And then, after the book was done, I heard a song on the radio that I instantly fell in love with and thought, “This is Kate and Henry’s song!” I especially love the line, “I’m going to climb on top your ivory tower. I’ll hold your hand and then we’ll jump right out.” I’m posting the video on here because I LOVE the video.

Here it is: Beneath Your Beautiful

As soon as I get some stuff organized, I’ll post photos from the launch party and update my events page. Thanks!

The Time Has Come

I can’t believe it’s already September! I am thrilled to be launching Blackmoore this month, and so very, very grateful for all of you wonderful early readers who have devoured it and enjoyed it. You make me want to write more stories, just for you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And thank you so much to everyone who is spreading the word about my books. That also makes me want to write more. I couldn’t make this happen without your support.

Now let’s talk about the good stuff happening this month.

First of all, both Edenbrooke and Blackmoore are on sale as e-books for the entire month. Edenbrooke is priced SO low it’s ridiculous: $1.99. Blackmoore is also on sale for $7.99. So if you like to read e-books, this is the month to grab these two. After this month, prices will return to normal. Some of you have asked about Blackmoore being available on the Nook. I’ve sent the question on to my publisher and I’m waiting for a response. I’ll let you know when I know something.

Secondly, I am getting really, really excited about The Launch Party next Tuesday! I’ve never had a launch party before, so I’m going all out on this one. We’re going to have yummy refreshments and music playing and you can come dressed up in Regency style if you want and you will get to visit with and take pictures with Two Male Models Dressed Up Like Regency gentlemen!

(Can you tell I’m excited about that part? I should probably not act so excited. I mean, I am a happily married woman, after all. But after all the hours I spent watching Jane Austen movies and swooning over handsome men in breeches, I am excited. I’m excited for ALL of us.)

So the launch party will be on Tuesday the 10th at 7 p.m. at The Kings English in Salt Lake City. Please come with your cameras! I would love to see what pictures you get. (And, yes, I realize most people take pictures with their phones these days, but I only have a dumb phone, so I’m still a camera person.)

If you can’t make it to the launch party, I have several other signings coming up. Please check the events page, which I will be updating daily as plans become concrete. I am definitely planning trips to Arizona, Las Vegas, and Idaho as of now, but the details still need to be hashed out. I’m excited to meet more of you, you wonderful readers!
